My wife has a practically brand new Canon Image Class MPC 190. She
used a NON (EXPENSIVE) Canon refill cartridge= the printer will not
now print black- colour's OK.

Can anyone tell me how to clean/ process the obviously clogged printer
head so we don't have to buy a brand new printer- seems ridiculous I
know but I'm determined not to give in to what I think is a rort where
you have to buy an entirely new machine because one tiny part
malfunctions.

Anywhere you can buy cheap printer heads?

cheers
John (john.hb@xtra.co.nz)

Remove the ink cartridges and get a Q-tip dampened with denatured
alcohol (rubbing type) and wipe the metal connections on the cartridge.
reinstall them and turn it on to print a test page. Good luck :~)

What was wrong with the link I posted in reply to your earlier query?

It is very possible that the after-market refilled cartridge
wasn't really filled.

Inkjet primer - "the writing is on the wall"
Sooner or later, you would have had to buy a new head anyway.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkjet_printer

http://www.systeminsight.co.uk/Canon_Printheads.htm

A new head only £55.25 inc vat £47.02 ex-vat
http://www.systeminsight.co.uk/acatalog/Canon_QY6_0037.html?title=QY6-...7_%5BS3

The question about the inks, is whether they undergo a
chemical change when the ink dries. A solvent would
work, if the ink was still in a soluble state. But
the channels in the head are tiny, and the very act of
cleaning them, can block the head. I know, because
I ruined one Sad (Not on this particular printer, but
on a larger format device.)

Depending on the printer model, most printer manuafcturer now resort
in placing a PROM chip in the ink cartridge so as to "enforce" the
usage of their "expensive" ink cartridges only. Before buying a new
printer, try buying a Canon "branded" ink cartridge.
