Previously, when I installed WinXP Pro, I did not enter password for
administrator because I am the sole user of my computer. So I am the
computer administrator.

During repair process of WinXP Pro (for Recovery Console), it asks for
typing the administrator password. I don't have the password. When I hit
<enter> , it repeatedly asks for the administrator password. Could someone
advise me how to go around this problem? TIA Jorge

There is a bug in WinXP which prevents you from using Recovery Console
even though the right password is typed when prompted....
So, here's the trick.
2. Enable Administrator to Log On Automatically in Recovery Console
3. Reboot into WinXP.
4. Select Start | Run, then type regedit Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup
\RecoveryConsole Change the SecurityLevel DWORD value data to 1.
5. Reboot the PC

While waiting for any response, I created administrative password from Start
> User account.
As you mentioned, it did not respond even after typing in the correct
password.

I appreciate your useful tip.

Regards,

Jorge

I have been attempting to do a repair of my Win XP Pro using the repair
console. I do have the administrator password.

However, when I enter the password and hit enter I get to "C:\Windows".

The repair install stops at this point. I let it sit for 30 minutes thinking
that something was being loaded.

Nothing happens. Any suggestions?

You don't do a Repair Install from the Recovery Console and that is why
nothing is happening. The Recovery Console is waiting for you to enter
commands at the command line. This has nothing to do with a Repair Install.
Here are instructions for doing a Repair Install:

Thanks... I figured this out and was able to get the "repair" accomplished.
