I tried to open up table in Access database and "Unrecognized database
format" comes up. Went to 'Help"- and tried compacting database and still
didn't work. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Very much appreciate
the help!

I've crossposted this to the following Access group

microsoft.public.access.gettingstarted

Susan

You need an Access newsgroup.

Hope this helps.

Hi Susan,

When you say you tried to open up a table, does that mean you were able
to open the database? Usually that error message means that the database
version is newer than the version of Access you are using. And as such, it
does not even allow you to open the database. Is this a database you created
with your version of Access or a database from someone else? What version of
Access are you using?

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

If this is a split DB applicatioin when you get the error, then you
may need to do the compact and repair on the MDB that contains the
tables themselves NOT the application part of it that you initially
open.

In other words, make sure you are doing the compact on the correct
file.

Microsoft Access reports 'Unrecognized Database Format' error message
when opening an Access database. This kind of error occurs when you try
to open a later Access database in an earlier version, such as trying to
open an Access 2000 database from Access 97.

Open the database in the newer version of Access it was developed or
convert the database to the older version. You can try Access inbuilt
utilities, but still you are facing the same error then you need access
repair software to repair your database. Try Stellar Phoenix Access
Repair Software from he http://www.repair-access-file.com/ surely it
can repair your access database.
