Had a user account that was password protected, along with the account folder
under Documents and Settings.
Computer crashed and had to reinstall Windows XP Pro. When creating new
users they were not created exactly as before.
How can I gain access to the locked folder? I know the previous password.

Thanks,

You will have to take "Ownership" of the folder. To do that you need to
change your advanced folder settings by unchecking "use simple file sharing"
You can then select security settings "advanced" to take ownership and that
should remove the access restrictions.
Be aware that even once you have removed the restrictions, trying to copy
your old documents and settings back will present a new challenge with the
new system files in your new installation. You will probably need to reveal
the hidden system folders and files as well. Be sure to backup or create a
restore point before you make any changes.
