I have both Microsoft word and excel installed in my laptop. I can open word
files received in window mail directly without saving it, but xls files can't
be opened directly, I have to first save it and then it opens from saved
locations. When xls is already associated with MS Excel on my computer, why
it does not open from Window mail directly and what is the solution?

That type of problem can be caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
For more information on why email scanning is bad, see
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm
If the problem continues, let us know.
