None of these solutions seem to work for me either. Do Microsoft experts
look at this an try to provide solutions?

-- Hi, I'm having the same problem, and I have the settings in the program
to empty the deleted messages on exit. It doesn't do it. I get a LOT of SPAM,
like a hundred a day, and that foldler is filling up fast. There is no FIX
for this?? Terrific. I hope its one of the first fixes Microsoft comes ujp
with. This is a new laptop and its giving me fits. Also, I've found Windows
Vista very confusing and difficult to get around in.

So, my deleted email will not delete, and the junk mail folder will not
delete. At first it was deleting fine, then decided to throw a tantrum. I've
rebooted, ran defrag, and thinking of doing a total system restore since I
don't have much saved on this new computer yet. What a pain!

I went there also, but was afraid it was going to delete all of the messages
including what is in the inbox. It doesn't speficy, just says "all messages."

How do you get Outlook? I always loved Outlook Express and my feeling is, "if
it ain't broke, don't fix it." This is a pain in the neck. New computer came
with Vista or I would have waited while they got the bugs out. Actually it
was all working great until I downloaded an "update." It created a Restore
point, I think I 'm going to try System Restore and go back to before getting
that update.

Outlook comes with some versions of Microsoft Office.
Unless you already own Office or need to purchase it for
other reasons, I wouldn't buy it for just Outlook.

Another decent email program that works well in Vista
is Mozilla Thunderbird, which is free.
It is something to use until Microsoft comes out with a fix
for Windows Mail.

You cannot install OE in Vista.

Do you have antivirus software set to scan email? See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Have you tried marking the message as read and then deleting it? That's
what I've been doing and so far it has always worked. Other things:

Try repairing the database with WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail
and one in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New
If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no
messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some
record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they
are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now
just mark them as read and ignore them.

I'm so glad to know that I am not the only person with this problem. I thik
it must have something to do with my having upgraded both to Windows Vista
and to Office 2007. so much for progress!

Office 2007 isn't a "requirement" for this problem - just Vista and Windows
mail (I'm running Office 2003 but still have the problem). What I don't
understand is that outside this forum there is no acknowledgement in the
Microsoft site that the problem even exists, let alone any willingness to do
anything about it.

The only way I was able to deleted messages out of the deleted box (all the
messages left in the box had blank texts) was to highlight all of the
messages in the box first. Then g to "Edit" and use the "Empty the Deleted
Items" function. Hit yes and yes. THIS DELETED ONLY THE LAST MESSAGE IN
THE QUE. I THEN HAD TO REPEAT THE PROCESS 29 TIMES (I HAD 30 MESSAGES TO
DELETE). Finally all messages were deleted one at a time with 30
repetitions of the same process. Cumbersome and a sign of poor software
design.

What I really don't understand is that THIS problem has been open for over 6
months based on the posts here! MS doesn't seem to be "fixing" it. Will
Outlook Express with vista clear it up (if that's even possible)?

Seems that email is one of the things that should work properly in the
"internet age"..

Looks like I'll need to see if Thunderbird works on vista, as MS Mail on
vista is a joke!

I got them to delete by highlighting the "Deleted Items" folder in Windows
Mail, then right clicking it. Then click "Empty Deleted Items Folder". It
deletes one at a time so you have to repeat the process over and over but
they are gone!
