Windows Easy Transfer errors

I am trying to migrate all of my files / settings from a WinXPPro box to a
new Vista using the infamous Windows "Easy" Transfer utility....After
everything is connected and the "process" starts WET almost immediately comes
up with an error "there was a problem scanning your information and WET will
now close"...no error code, no suggestions...nothing! I have tried using the
Belking USB cable method and an external HD method, turning off the antivirus
and firewall, logging on as an admin, making sure the logons were identical,
etc...no sucess. I have searched endless forums and all I can find are a
number of users having the same experience with absolutely no solution. I
would have thought by now Microsoft would have at least identified some of
the potential reasons / solutions for this error. I, along with many more
frustrated users would appreciate any suggestions as to why the WET
(migwiz.exe) gets hung up.
