I'm very new to Vista and can't understand why my "Inbox - Windows Mail
window does't display the "local folders" column on the left side of the
window. I'm currently trying to open a deleted message without any success.

What happened to you is you somehow got "show folders column" turned off by
some manipulation of keys that was unknow to you. It also happened to me.
Here is how you fix it
1. Open the mail program
2. Open the view heading
3 select Layout
4. under this heading you will see the first box is the "Folder list" box
5. put a check mark in the box by clicking in the box, then say ok and close
out the window... and walla presto your folder column will be back
permanently.

happy computing... this area is really neat... i have got several questions
answered here

not possible because Windows Mail starts with "inbox" which has no "view
heading"

What if you hold down the Alt key and press F?

I have lost all of my mail that I had under my "My Personal Computer" folder.
If it was deleted, how can I get it back? Thank You.

Windows Mail does not have a "My Personal Computer" folder, so I don't
know where you are seeing that.

If mail is deleted from folders in Windows Mail, it goes into the "Deleted Items"
folder. If anything is deleted from that "Deleted Items" folder, it is pretty much
gone for good.
